Emily Brown
Emily Brown is a Cohort 3 NextGen Nonproliferation Stewardship fellow and Darleane C. Hoffman Postdoctoral Fellow, working on the project “Dissolution Triplet Dynamic Nuclear Polarization and Zero Field NMR for Tritium Sensing.” She earned her Ph.D. in Chemistry from North Carolina State University in 2025, where she worked with Prof. Phil Castellano and Prof. Thomas Theis to amplify NMR signals and generate hyperpolarization using visible and UV light with para-hydrogen, including the first demonstration of visible light activation of para-hydrogen-based hyperpolarization. She holds a B.S. in Chemistry from Haverford College, where she contributed to high-throughput perovskite growth research. In her fellowship, Emily collaborates with Prof. Ashok Ajoy to magnify NMR signals for improved environmental tritium detection, with the goal of enabling mobile and nondestructive sampling techniques.
